Nancy’s Library Disaster

Nancy is doing her homework, which is writing her name in cursive, when Jo Jo comes into her room. Jo Jo asks her to read his favorite book, Pete the Little Pirate Ship. When Nancy says she’s doing homework, Jo Jo asks what homework is. Nancy replies by telling her that it is school you do at home. Nancy then asks Claire if she can go to the library. Claire tells her that Jo Jo has to go too. When they get to the library, Nancy goes to find Ms. Evans, the children librarian, but it is her day off. Nancy tries to find Jo Jo a book, but he wants to look for himself. While Nancy grabs a pink book called How to Throw Fancy Tea Parties, Jo Jo shows Nancy a book called Big Mac the Pirate Ship. Nancy isn’t at all thrilled because she was sick of reading Pete the Little Pirate Ship. When they get to the desk, the grown up librarian asks if Jo Jo has a library card. When Jo Jo says no, she gets out a card to see if she can right her name. Nancy is surprised when she sees Jo Jo write Ns and As in cursive on the card. Nancy asks how she can do that and Jo Jo replies by telling her that she as seen her do it. Once they get home, Jo Jo wants Nancy to read right away. After reading the book ten times, Nancy teaches Jo Jo how to write her name, but Jo Jo only writes Ns and As. In two weeks when the book is due, the whole family, even Frenchy, is happy. When Jo Jo gets the book to take back, Nancy sees that Jo Jo has written Ns and As on every page! When Nancy shows Claire, she says that the grown up librarian will take away her library card. Claire explains that she can bring some money to pay for the damage done to the book. When they get to the library, Nancy is glad to see Ms. Evans at the desk. She thought that Ms. Evans would understand about little sister problems. Soon Nancy pays for the book and Miss Evans gives Jo Jo the book, explaining that since there was crayon on every page, the book was now Jo Jo’s. Nancy is horrified, but Ms. Evans asks if Jo Jo had a library card. When she answers no, Ms. Evans says the book is Nancy’s. Nancy is happy, but tells Jo Jo that she will read the book to him every once in a while. As they walk home, Nancy tells Jo Jo that she will read it to him before Doug gets home.
